タネや筋書きやテーマよりはむしろ筆者の言葉の選び方や人物設定、ものの捉え方などが興味深かった本です。
私の期待が大き過ぎたのか、正直、ミステリとしては「ありがちでライトノベルっぽい」という印象しか受けませんでした。ただ、筆者が現役の医師であることを考えれば、デビューから短い期間でこれだけのクオリティのものを出せるだけでも凄いと思います。
筆の早さのためか、「え？この人物の設定はあまりに無理があるのでは？」と思う箇所が多く、それが「あ、でも、お医者さんはこれが不思議でない世界に住んでるのかな」と思えて、とても興味深かったです。もちろん、私の感覚がおかしいのかもしれませんし、このかただけがそういう感覚なのかもしれないです。
例えば、迦陵頻伽は私には何のことやらサッパリ分からなくて辞書を引いたし、ナイチンゲール（人名の方でなく、鳥の名前。ホトトギスのこと）が「鳴いて血を吐くホトトギス」なのは見事に忘れててググったし、「フラクタルな事象を空間に閉じ込めるため」という言葉を医師が普通の看護婦に向かって言う状況は想像できないし、酒を飲んでばかりの無職の父を持つ父子家庭の少年が何故に入院中の病室でトランク二つもの本の山を築けるのかは謎で仕方がなかったです。
最初の本を読んだときにはそれほど気にならなかったのは、最初の本は登場人物のほとんどが凄い肩書き持ちのお医者さんって設定なうえに、時間をかけて書けたからかなー、と思いました。
ところで、あんまり関係ないですが、「白髭皇帝の殿前軍」や「将軍（ジェネラル）の近衛兵」などの二つ名は、私にはちょっと辛かったです…。
